Term 2 – Lesson 4

Rock & Brass Music

Rock & Brass

Rock music becomes even more exciting when brass instruments like trumpets and trombones join the band! Their bright, powerful sound adds energy and fun, making every song feel bigger and more alive. Kids love how these instruments can make the music roar like a rock star but still stay playful and upbeat.

A brand‑new song the class is learning is “Au Claire de la Lune”, a simple and sweet melody that helps young musicians practice their notes while having fun. It’s an easy tune to play on the trumpet or trombone, and it’s a great way for kids to enjoy making music as they grow more confident with their instruments. 1

2. Hold your breath for a count of 4 beats.

3. Release your breath through your mouth for a count of 8 beats.

4. Without a break, breath in again for a count of 4, repeating the entire technique 3-4 times in a row.

Repeat with your mouthpiece.

Mouthpiece Challenge

Set your embouchure up on the mouthpiece.
The goal is to only use your air to change the pitch.
Take a breath whenever you need to!
When you keep the opening the same and blow faster, the pitch will go up, and when you blow slower, the pitch will go down.
